Correction of Open Bite on a Class II Skeletal Basis Without Extractions or Surgery
This 20-year-old patient presented with a complex case involving a severe Class II skeletal malocclusion, marked by a significant overjet, anterior open bite, and crowding in both upper and lower arches.
To address the sagittal discrepancy and reduce the pronounced overjet, treatment began with the use of a Carriere Motion Appliance. This initial phase lasted approximately 7 months and laid the foundation for improved jaw positioning.
In the second phase, clear aligner therapy was employed to expand both dental arches and align the teeth effectively. This stage took around 12 months and greatly enhanced dental symmetry and arch coordination.
The third phase included the strategic use of buttons and elastics to help close the anterior open bite and coordinate the arches and jaw alignment.
The entire course of treatment spanned approximately 26 months and resulted in a highly functional and aesthetically pleasing outcome—achieved without the need for extractions or surgical intervention.
The patient is now in the retention phase, wearing fixed and removable retainers to preserve the long-term stability of this exceptional result.
